Special Thanks to Flat Rock Brook Nature Center
Our team took part in the annual Great Fall Festival at Flat Rock Brook Nature Center in Englewood, NJ, an afternoon celebrating the 150-acre nature preserve alongside local educational and environmental organizations. From noon to 4:00 p.m., Fading Blue ran three stations. At our desk, artists introduced visitors to Fading Blue, handed out postcards and bookmarks, and connected with potential exhibition venues. At our exhibition, artists guided guests through the work, explained the ocean pollution issues behind it, and invited each visitor to complete a post-visit survey.
At our upcycling workshop, designed by Andrew Shin, artists helped children turn reused materials into their own crafts: a fall leaf hedgehog, a cardboard pumpkin, and a scrap-paper apple tree, showing how everyday waste can become something new.
More than 40 children joined the workshop, and our survey collected nearly 120 responses. At this event, the most common answer to what visitors were most likely to do next was to recycle more carefully, followed closely by using fewer single-use plastics. Many also planned to share what they learned or join a cleanup or advocacy effort.
